For several years now, Calvin College’s nursing department has been running the Community Health Worker Program. Â There are several Community Health Workers who work for the Creston/Belknap area. Â The have been hired from within the community to advocate for and educate their neighbors. Â They are paired with senior nursing students and meet individually with neighbors to discuss:
– Health concerns. Â Got a medical question? Â Try to stump the students!! Â We also have a couple FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS if you’re interested. Â Might as well get your blood pressure checked while you’ve got the nurses all to yourself.
– Area resources, from prescription assistance to health and dental clinics. Â Accessing affordable care is an issue for so many of us, but these teams have a huge compilation of programs and organizations that can help. Â They will pair you with the resources that are right for you.
– Issues not directly related to health. Â Among the information they’ve gathered, are contact numbers for food pantries, transportation assistance and more. Â Health Workers are interested in the big picture.
EVERYTHING IS CONFIDENTIAL!
We will come to your home, or wherever you’re comfortable meeting. Â Different health workers are working at different times, so we should be able to fit this into your schedule. Â It is a short visit but it can be as in depth as you’d like it to be. Â Some folks have a specific concern and that’s all they want to cover. Â Others don’t know where to start. Â The visit is catered to you, but we know how to get the conversation started.
